On Sunday 20th July the Sunshine Coast Jazz Club is excited to present the Paul Hendon Sextet “Benny Goodman Tribute”. The band will be bringing the sound of the Benny Goodman Small Group recordings to life on the Sunshine Coast. This authentic line-up includes Sydney vibraphonist Glenn Henrich.
Made famous by the Goodman/Lionel Hampton collaboration all those years ago, the combination of clarinet and vibraphone still offers a delightful pairing where the clarinet's focused sound is juxtaposed with the vibraphone's resonant, shimmering tones to create a unique and engaging musical experience.
Backed by a seasoned and sympathetic rhythm section, the group is looking forward to presenting their version of standards such as “Avalon” & “Moonglow”, as well as a few of the lesser known but equally beautiful tunes hidden away in many of Goodman’s recordings.
There will also be a nod to some of Goodman’s big band recordings from the Swing Era, and with two of those on stage also talented vocalists, they may even break out in song at some point!
The talented line-up is:
Paul Hendon - clarinet, saxophone
Glenn Henrich (Sydney) - vibraphone, saxophone
Jo Bloomfield - piano
Alex Compton (Sydney) - double bass
Dave Burrows - guitar
Rod Ford - drums
Please join us for a wonderful afternoon where you will be entertained by this amazing group of musicians!
Doors open at 12.00 (Noon) and the show starts at 13.00 at the Pelican Room, Caloundra Power Boat Club, 2 Lamerough Parade, Golden Beach.
