Braben Jenner Hot Five Review

When it comes to great Trad jazz, some swing and just good-time music, then the BRABEN – JENNER HOT FIVE is the group that does it all.  On Sunday 18th April the Power Boat Club audience listened and enjoyed 2 hours of relaxing, toe tapping jazz. “Three Little Words” opened the show, then followed well known blues standards.  Andy Jenner crooned some great blues laments and played some fine clarinet and reeds solos. Dave Burrows played some exquisite Django style guitar solos to enthusiastic applause.  John's trumpet solo of “Georgia” and a moving version of the Duke's “Mood Indigo” were two of the many musical gems from the HOT FIVE.  A nice tribute “Sweet Lorraine” was played with empathy, for our past Founder and Patron, Ted, “Red Sox” O'Connor.  Then who better than Jo to belt out some of the hottest boogie piano.  The keyboard was smokin' when she finished, receiving a standing ovation from the crowd. Even Dave and Peter were having trouble keeping up with Jo's flying fingers.  All good things have to end and the end was a solid rip roarin'  Fats Waller special.   Thanks HOT FIVE. More power to you!
