CAXTON STREET JAZZ BAND REVIEW

The Caloundra Power Boat Club on Sunday 17th April was again the host venue for the celebrated CAXTON STREET JAZZ BAND. Great music from early ragtime, Ellington, Bechet, Henderson and Eartha Kitt!! and swing from the 40's onwards were treated with respect from these talented musicians.  Keyboard maestro Bernice sang Eartha's “My Heart’s Delight, the Duke's “I'm Beginning to See the Light” along with some nice keyboard solos. Standards “Shimmy Sha Wabble”, “Hiawatha”,  “1919 March” and a stirring “Royal Garden Blues” finished the first set.  A Bechet blues opened the next set which featured Andrew with a glorious bass solo of “Careless Love”, Dave gave a Washboard special “Chicago Stomp”and then a swinging “Lester Leaps In” which allowed Paul on tenor sax to let us hear just good he is on reeds. John, the leader and trumpet virtuoso, always gives his best in the group and when soloing, and Chris, stand in on trombone, had plenty to say musically. The CSJB never, and I mean never, fail to give great music to listen to, dance to or just relax and enjoy. Our sound man Ben ensures the music sound is the best. Great musicians, great music and a very pleasant relaxing afternoon. Thanks to the SCJC  for another fine afternoon of music.
