On Sunday 17th August the Caloundra Power Boat Club rocked rolled and swung when the WELLSWUNG DADDIES and CHERRYN opened the afternoon with “I Wanna Be Just Like You”. Yeah what a start!! The Louis Jordan “CALDONIA” was next to shatter the eardrums, not that we cared as Ray Charles “Hit the Road Jack” knocked the stuffing out of us. Oh man! We were in for an afternoon.
The DADDIES so talented showing in their solos, and CHERRYN in her inimitable great style gave everything. Did they not! Then came a roof lifting “ZOOTSUIT RIOT”. It was a riot. That dreadful lady “MINNIE” (what a moocher) told us her story. A couple of slower tunes gave all back their breath to the end of set one.
The Raffle winners returned to the seats with big smiles and off we went again. Wow, were not the dancers, jitterbugers, jivers, all happy!! The floor was packed. Young and old all enjoying this wonderful joyous music.
Billie Fields “BAD HABITS” brought back memories of our young bad habits. Do you remember Jackie Wilson and “SHE'S SO FINE” and then the “ROCK ROCK ROCK, ROLL ROLL ROLL” also had a jumping audience. High Trumpet notes, growling Trombone, deep baritone sax, great beat from the drums, guitar, bass and those frantic steps and wonderful voice from CHERRYN made the afternoon so enjoyable. So many songs were played and sung, and our sound man Ben always has the sound just right.
Thanks to the WELLSWUNGDADDIES &CHERRYN for a real swinging musical afternoon.
