RUSSELL BAYNE'S SESSION BAND plus guests LEENA SALIM & JOSH LINNETT

On Sunday 19th October the Power Boat Club held sway when RUSSELL BAYNE'S multitalented SESSION BAND (Jo, keyboards; Pat, percussion; Paul, tenor sax; Peter, trumpet, vocals) plus guests LEENA SALIM & JOSH LINNETT took to the stage. The opening “Around the World” had the audience anticipating.

Guest LEENA SALIM wooed us with a bracket including a Singapore melody. Peter, always the entertainer, sang a nice “Neverless” which Paul on tenor sax, and guitar maestro Russell, played lovely solos. Leena and Peter led the audience into joining with “Too Good to be True”, “Just a Gigalo” and a rollicking Elvis “Blue Suede Shoes”, with Jo on keyboards showing how “Boogie” is played, and Peter on his trumpet hitting those top high notes. A break for the musicians and raffle time for the audience.

Second set opened with our (never stops working) President Julie singing an oldie “Goodie Goodie”, a nice round of applause!! which set the scene for music to come. Our second guest was young, handsome, talented vocalist JOSH LINNETT and the lovely standard “Just the Way You Look Tonight” & Jobim's “One Note Samba”. Josh has it all.!! Leena took us to Paris with the Eartha Kitt “C'est Si Bon”…….Yep ,it was so good!!. Leena reminded that “Life Among the Gum Trees” also was pretty good!! Peter took over with a couple of songs he loves to sing as do we, “St. James Infirmary” & “Minnie the Moocher” (maybe Pete was a bit of a moocher!!)

Josh joined Leena & Peter singing mad' wild' great scatting with RUSSELL & the SESSION BAND blasting every gasp of energy left into a not to be forgotten “Route Sixty Six”. Could a finale be better. No way! What an exciting afternoon from wonderful musicians, who are enjoyable entertainers.

Thank you RUSSELL & THE SESSION BAND, guest vocalists LEENA SALIM & JOSH LINNETT.
